The Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) is the global gold standard for AML professionals, recognized by financial institutions and regulators worldwide. Over 140,000 professionals in 200+ jurisdictions hold the credential. An enhanced version launched in July 2025 with modular learning and sector-specific electives.
Specialist certifications (CAMS, CGSS, CCAS, CAFS) require an active ACAMS membership and 40 eligibility credits earned through professional experience in AML, financial crime prevention, or related fields. Associate certifications (CKYCA, CTMA, CAFCA) have no eligibility credit requirements beyond ACAMS membership.
Associate certifications require annual recertification. Specialist certifications (CAMS, CGSS, CCAS, CAFS) and Advanced certifications (CAMS-Audit, CAMS-FCI, CAMS-RM) require recertification every three years. All recertification requires an active ACAMS membership and continuing education credits.
ACAMS offers three tiers: Associate (foundational, no experience required), Specialist (core certifications requiring 40 eligibility credits), and Advanced (requires passing CAMS first plus 3-5 years experience). Each level builds on the previous, creating a structured career pathway in anti-financial crime.
ACAMS certification exams are administered through Pearson VUE testing centers worldwide or via online proctoring. Candidates have 6 months from application approval to schedule and take their exam. Most exams are multiple-choice, with advanced exams incorporating case studies and scenario-based questions.
