Associate (ACA) certifications validate foundational knowledge and are designed for professionals with 6-12 months of experience. Professional (ACP) certifications validate implementation and troubleshooting skills for those with 2-3 years of experience. Architect (ACNA) certifications focus on advanced network design. Expert (ACX) certifications are the highest level and require passing both a written exam and a multi-hour hands-on practical lab exam, targeting professionals with 4-5+ years of experience.
Expert certifications require two separate exams: a written exam (HPE7 series) and a practical lab exam (HPE4 series). The practical labs are 6-8 hours long and test real-world configuration, troubleshooting, and design skills on live HPE Aruba equipment. You must pass the written exam before registering for the practical exam.
Yes, all HPE6 and HPE7 written exams are available as online proctored exams through Pearson VUE, in addition to in-person testing centers. The exception is Expert practical lab exams (HPE4 series), which must be taken at designated testing facilities.
HPE has reorganized the certification program. Mobility certifications (ACMA/ACMP/ACMX) have been realigned under the Campus Access domain. ClearPass certifications (ACCA/ACCP/ACCX) have been incorporated into the Network Security domain. The HPE6-A88 ClearPass exam remains as a product specialist credential. Legacy exam codes are being phased out in favor of the updated HPE6/HPE7 numbering.
The Edge certification is a stackable credential awarded at Associate, Professional, or Expert level to candidates who hold three out of four domain certifications (Campus Access, Switching, Network Security, and Design/ClearPass). It demonstrates broad cross-domain expertise in HPE Aruba Networking solutions.
