As of October 2024, CIW certifications have a validity period of three years. Candidates can renew by retaking and passing the same exam, which resets the three-year expiry from the date of the new passing attempt. Prior to this change, CIW certifications were lifetime credentials.
CIW exams are delivered online through the Certiverse/Rosalyn.ai remote proctoring platform. Candidates can take exams from home or office with a webcam, stable internet connection, and valid government-issued photo ID. Each exam costs approximately $175 USD.
The CIW Web Foundations Associate (1D0-610) is a comprehensive entry-level certification that covers internet business concepts, site development basics, and network technology fundamentals. It serves as the recommended starting point for all CIW certification paths.
The Web Security Specialist requires the CIW Web Security Associate (1D0-671) plus one qualifying third-party security certification such as CompTIA Security+. The Web Security Professional requires the same CIW exam plus two qualifying third-party certifications from vendors like CompTIA, Cisco, EC-Council, or Checkpoint.
