All HashiCorp certifications are valid for two years from the pass date. You can begin the recertification process at 18 months by passing an exam for the same product at the same level or higher.
Associate exams are 60-minute multiple-choice tests costing $70.50 USD that validate foundational knowledge. Professional exams are lab-based, hands-on assessments (up to 4 hours) costing $295 USD that require you to perform real tasks in live environments.
IBM completed its acquisition of HashiCorp in February 2025. As of early 2026, the HashiCorp certification program continues to operate under the HashiCorp brand with the same exam structure, pricing, and delivery through Certiverse. Business operations transitioned to IBM on September 1, 2025.
Holding the Associate certification is recommended but not strictly required. HashiCorp advises that candidates have Associate-level knowledge and hands-on production experience before attempting Professional exams.
The Terraform Associate 003 exam was retired on January 7, 2026. It has been replaced by the Terraform Associate 004, which launched on January 8, 2026 and tests Terraform 1.12. Existing 003 badges remain valid for two years from the original pass date.
