All PMI certifications are valid for 3-year cycles. You must earn Professional Development Units (PDUs) during each cycle: 30 PDUs for CAPM, PMI-ACP, PMI-RMP, PMI-SP, PMI-PBA, and PMI-CP; 60 PDUs for PMP, PgMP, and PfMP. PDUs can be earned through education, giving back to the profession, and other qualifying activities.
PgMP (Program Management Professional) is for professionals managing multiple related projects as a coordinated program to achieve strategic benefits. PfMP (Portfolio Management Professional) is for executives managing a portfolio of projects and programs aligned with organizational strategy. Both require a multi-stage evaluation including a panel review of experience summaries plus a 170-question exam.
Yes. Active CAPM holders receive a 23-hour training credit toward the PMP's 35-hour education requirement, meaning they only need 12 additional hours of commercial training aligned with the PMP Examination Content Outline to qualify for the PMP exam.
